After graduating from the High School of Music and Art of New York, Susan Rayfeld completed her training in drawing and painting at the Académie d’Arts Plastiques of Brussels and at "Diois Expressions" with Alina Cocière .

 

A French and American citizen, she has been living in Europe for 40 years and in the Diois since 2004.

Her landscapes are inspired by her surroundings at home and in her world-wide travels. Her work also includes portraits and figures in which she aims for resemblance and atmosphere.

In acrylic Susan has developed a new style: close-ups of trees, branches, flowers, often partly imaginary and more abstract.

In her watercolors she aims for a softer, hazier atmosphere, making the most of Lana Vanguard or Yupo paper.

If her initial inspiration is almost always natural beauty, her exploration is principally abstract : composition, color, value, with an objective of visual harmony and contrast.
